Model Home: Part 1

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind for me. Two and a half weeks ago, I was asked to design a model home that they needed done by Memorial Day weekend for a fun run they were hosting there. The home is located in the beautiful Hawks Landing subdivision here in Southeast Idaho. The builder is Phelps Homes and they do amazing work. It is a 6 bedroom 3 1/2 bathroom home. I am going to post the main level first and then I will get the the upstairs and the basement another day. I forgot to take a picture of the exterior, so I will have to post that another day, but here is the beautiful entry as you walk in the front door.

I was not involved in the finish or paint selection process. I don't know the names of the paint colors, and actually neither does the builder. He said they were sort of a mix they made out of some left over paint they had.
They wanted a bench for people to use to take their shoes off before walking through the home. I found that at TJ Maxx and the rug is from Target. The clock is from Walmart. We were working on a pretty tight budget, so I had to do a lot of shopping around to find the best items for the best price. I am really pleased with how it turned out though.

The office is on the left of the entry.

This will actually be their sales person's office. The desk is from Office Max. I did not purchase the chairs. They were already owned by the developer, so I don't know where they came from. The art is from Tuesday Morning.

The dining area.

I love this table and chair set. Sorry, it is kind of hard to see. When I took these pictures it was right in the middle of the day, so the lighting was horrible. But it is from Sam's Club and here is the link. We purchased our table and chair set from Sam's too. Who would have thought they would have such great furniture.

The buffet table is from Downeast Home. The fabulous mirror is from TJ Maxx. The Lamps are from Lowes and the shades I found at Hancock Fabric.

Living Area

The loveseat is from Furniture Row. The clock is from Lowes ( great price too, by the way: $49.99). The lamp is from Target.  The big empty spot in the built-in is where a T.V. will go, in case you were wondering.

Those fabulous chairs are from Pier 1. I absolutely love them! They make the room. The art above the fireplace is also a favorite of mine. It is from Fred Meyer.

Isn't this a great kitchen?!! I love the size.

I didn't have to do much here. I made the simple window valance. The decorations above the hood are from Pier 1. That big empty spot next to the wall ovens is where the refridgerator will go.

Stay tuned for the rest of the house later...

I finally finished a project!

I have been pretty lame lately in the whole house project department. I have started a few projects over the last couple weeks but haven't finished any of them until now! I made my pillow for my bed this weekend. I am very proud of myself too. I used cording for the first time and I am pleased with how it turned out.

Just don't look too closely. It is definitely not perfect. I LOVE it in my room though!

I feel like my bedroom is finally starting to come together a little. It's fun!

Look What I Found...

Remember on my dream bedroom board I was coveting of this fabric:

But the $17/yard price tag plus shipping just wasn't doing it for me. Well, I was wandering around JoAnns this weekend and found this:

It's not exactly like the original but it's good enough for me, and it was 50% off so I was able to get a
yard for $12. So hopefully I will be making a pillow in the next few days on top of a few other little projects I have started, which include making a new wreath for my front door and a geneology chart.

Kitchen Chalkboard

I forgot that I hadn't posted my chalkboard yet. I finally did finish making the chalkboard for my kitchen. Remember my DIY Pottery Barn wall art that I made for my apartment like 5 years ago...

well, I used the frame that my husband made out of molding for my chalkboard.

For the board part, Calvin cut to size a piece of really thin particle board stuff...I'm not really sure what it is called, but you can get a big piece of it at Home Depot for $10. Then I primed and painted it and attached the board to the frame with a staple gun. As you can see from the smudges on the board, I have been using it. It's been great to jot down quick reminders and grocery items we need.

My Dream Bedroom

Our bedroom has kind of been one of the neglected rooms in our house. I like what I have done with it using what I have, but we haven't really put much money into it. The bed is a $30 metal frame, and I made the tufted headboard for about $60. Our dresser is the same one I have had since I was like 10 years old. Our nightstands are plastic drawers from Wal-Mart, and our Ikea lamps have seen better days. Bedroom furniture is just too expensive and not in our budget right now, BUT that doesn't stop me from dreaming. I put together my dream bedroom on a design board. Here is what I came up with:

The bed is the Hudson Bed from Pottery Barn, and it is, of course, paired with my West Elm Bedding. The Linx Pillow is from Z Gallerie and I have been coveting that fabric for a while now. I want to make a bolster pillow out of it for my bed. The chair is Swoop Upholstered Accent Chair-Gorgeous Pearl from Target. Curtains are also from Target. I have wanted a glass lamp base for years now! Most of them are pretty pricey, for me that is, but Target has a reasonably priced Tear Drop one. I paired it with a fabulous Gold Chevron Lamp Shade, also from Target. (Can you tell I really like Target?) The side table is the Isala Side Table from Ikea. (I also really love the matching Isala Coffee Table.) Then to top off the room I would add a few decorative accents. The Ceramic Books and Faux Coral are from Z Gallerie. So there you have it! That is my dream bedroom. Maybe someday...

Rustic Modern Lighting

In the words of Brick Tamland, "I love lamp." :) But seriously, I really do love lighting. Not only is it one of the most important design elements, (you can't show off a beautifully designed room if your lighting stinks) but I also think it is a fun way to add character to a space. What reminded me of how much I love lighting was I was on homedecorators.com yesterday, and they have some great modern/rustic lighting options.

Wire Five-Light Pendant
This one is definitely a conversation piece.

A unique use of chicken wire. It also comes in small pendants and wall sconces, which would look great on an exterior.

Hendricks Birdcage Pendant
This one is my favorite...

but the $749 price tag isn't, and will never be, in my budget. :)
